WRITE CLUB

The only rule of WRITE CLUB is to WRITE!
(And you have full permission for it to be the worst sh*t in the world…)

AUTUMN - WINTER 2023

Fortnightly WRITE CLUB sessions from Thursday 14th September to December 7th December.
6.30pm - 8.15pm
£15 per session or full term of 7 sessions for £90.
See below for payment plan + bursary place options

All sessions are recorded and sent out to sign-ups after each week. So if you cannot make a session you can return to this in your own time, or revisit a session for co-writing/body doubling goodness.

What happens at WRITE CLUB?! I mean, we write but…???

All of the aspects of WRITE CLUB are an invitation. We meet online at 6.30pm BST, and introduce ourselves and a brief “how you doing today?”. Before we get stuck into writing I will guide us in a meditation or movement to get into our bodies a bit. We may have arrived from work or a busy dinner time or whatnot. This is a chance for us to breathe and arrive! We write from the bodies - notebook and pens at the ready - so a moment to breathe and land in our bones will serve us well. All of the aspects of WRITE CLUB are an invitation so you do what feels good for you.

Expect:

  • TIMED WRITING sessions.

  • Simple and gentle mindfulness exercises.

  • Interesting prompts to get you started, and ways to find them in your own writing

  • Support from Kathryn, and the work of Natalie Goldberg.

  • Space to share your wins and challenges and be heard, and ask for support if you would like some.

  • The warm glow from your writer self having made a commitment to write

At the end of each session we will set our writing intention (this sounds so much nicer than GOAL setting, but we will also be supporting ourselves to nail it so there is no vague waftiness here!) for the week ahead and name how we will support ourselves, and ask others to help us, to do the thing.

Over the weeks we will build up our practice and habits we are growing.
Leaning into the support of the group and seeing what comes!

If you would like to get the most out of WRITE CLUB I warmly welcome you to sign up for the 7 session and come and get stuck in and see where you end up at the end of the three months. (With a heap of words on the page and a warm glow in the belly!)

1-to-1 Mentoring

I also offer 60-minute 1-to-1 mentoring hours as part of this course (held on Tuesday and Wednesday day times) to support you in rooting and growing your writing and making space for it in your life. Think deep listening cheerleader. Before the session I will be in touch to prepare for the session and you can let me know if you have an idea about what you would like to focus on (it’s ok if you don’t, we will work it out together) and after the session, I will send you keynotes and recording.
Each 1-to-1 is £75 with a discount for multiple session bookings of 4 or more.

*Discounts

Solidarity discounts are freely available for marginalised people with financial need. (This Green Bottle Scale can be a helpful tool.)

In engaging with the work of anti-capitalist business coach Bear Hebert offering I am integrating solidarity discounts as part of my business model. It is in the fledgling stages, and I appreciate your patience and understanding while I find a way forward that feels easeful and accessible. For the moment I offer these on a Pay What You Can basis, which means securing your space via PayPal and transferring the PWYC feel that feels good to you. Please put your email address in the ‘notes section’ so I can then contact you with ZOOM link and further details.

The 1-to-1 mentoring sessions are offered on a sliding scale basis of £50-£75.

I am currently in the process of navigating my way off the Universal Credit financial support system in the UK after a number of years needing this support through ill health and recovery. I am diligently, with great support, working out how to build a livelihood that supports chronic illness and neurodivergent health needs. I see this as a vastly empowering thing, but not something that comes with a clear rulebook and continues to be very much a trial-and-error process. I have the privilege to have been given an education up to post-graduate level and am supported where possible by family and community. I am not yet financially secure.

I say all this because people may assume that if I’m offering discounts, it must be because I don’t need the money. Rather, I offer solidarity discounts as a commitment to anti-capitalist practices in my business and supporting financially accessible spaces for creative community and practice.

(With much gratitude for the help with the wording of this from Bear Hebert, and signposting to their work here.)

My daily writing had become a bit samey - all about stuff I had to do or how I was feeling. WRITE CLUB has injected some creativity and helped me think about why I want to write and how writing practise can support me in living a more present life, with more attention and wonder and everyday magic. It’s also lovely to have a writing community to meet with regularly.
— Suzanne - WRITE CLUB 2023
Writing practice embraces your whole life and doesn’t demand any logical form: no chapter 19 following the action in chapter 18. It’s a place that you can come to wild and unbridled, mixing the dream of your grandmother’s soup with the astounding clouds outside your window. It is undirected and has to do with all of you right in your present moment. Think of writing practice as loving arms you come to illogically and incoherently. It’s our wild forest...It’s a continual practice.
— Natalie Goldberg. 'Writing Down The Bones.'
